VTEM Motion Terminal

World’s First Pneumatic Valve Controlled by Apps

The VTEM motion terminal is the first pneumatic valve controlled by apps. Festo’s new motion terminal is a single, programmable pneumatic automation platform. The unit controls consumption depending on the application with Motion Apps.

The motion terminal and apps allow users to integrate functions without changing or adding hardware. The functions are assigned by the controller and can be changed during operation. The functions of 50 individual components can be achieved by each valve. In addition, it has the ability to perform functions associated with separate components, such as flow control and pressure regulation. This motion valve terminal is the ideal solution to maximizing the entire value chain.

Maximize the Entire Value Chain

The VTEM motion terminal offers traditional valve functions of 2/2-way, 3/2-way, 4/2-way or 4/3-way valves. Additional functions include proportional technology, servo-pneumatic functions, presetting of travel time and ECO drive, and leakage diagnostics. The device creates a number of special features compared to valve terminals with conventional piston slide valves. From faster assembly and commissioning to reduced costs during conceptualization and design, the VTEM will benefit the entire value chain.

The unit can be used to replace over 50 individual components and even entire system solutions. From flow control valves to directional control valves, proportional regulators, soft stop solutions all the way down to pneumatic positioning tasks, the VTEM motion terminal can be used in place of or to replace a range of components. Ultimately, it assists with reducing the complexity of systems, speeding up engineering processes, and maximizing efficiency and productivity. Festo’s digitization of pneumatics with the VTEM motion terminal creates advantages throughout every phase of the value chain.

How does the VTEM differ from traditional mechatronic systems?

Traditional mechatronic systems are hardwired and changing the design or operation of the system is costly and time consuming. Typically, parameters that may change are considered during the design stage of the machine. Whereas, the Festo Motion Terminal allow for functional changes to be made without having to change or add hardware. Therefore, low cost adaptation is created even if the changes were not considered during the design phase. The VTEM also offers minimum installation work, increased profitability, greater energy efficiency, and maximization throughout the value chain.

7 Questions: Is the VTEM Motion Terminal For You?

1. Do I use more than 2 proportional valves in my application?

2. Can I avoid the use of shock absorbers?

3. Can I save more than 70% on cylinder travel time?

4. Do I combine movements with controlled force in intermediate positions?

5. Do I want to reduce the number or components installed in my machine?

6. Do I want to automate my system energy-efficiently?

7. Do I want to avoid hybrid solutions and focus on one technology instead of using pneumatic components for vacuum and electric ones for motion, for example?
